Algal Research is an international phycology journal covering all areas of emerging technologies in algae biology, biomass production, cultivation, harvesting, extraction, bioproducts, biorefinery, engineering, and econometrics. Algae is defined to include cyanobacteria, microalgae, and protists and symbionts of interest in biotechnology. The journal publishes original research and reviews for the following scope: algal biology, including but not exclusive to: phylogeny, biodiversity, molecular traits, metabolic regulation, and genetic engineering, algal cultivation, e.g. phototrophic systems, heterotrophic systems, and mixotrophic systems, algal harvesting and extraction systems, biotechnology to convert algal biomass and components into biofuels and bioproducts, e.g., nutraceuticals, pharmaceuticals, animal feed, plastics, etc. algal products and their economic assessment

The average time of 13 days for initial review and 55 days for peer review as stated on the homepage is completely misleading! I submitted my manuscript in early December, and it stayed in "submit" status for over 20 days. On December 25th, the status changed to "with editor," and there has been no progress since. It has been another 20 days, and despite sending a reminder email 3 days ago, there has been no response. Waiting in complete despair!!! The reason they gave was some ridiculous excuse about not being able to use data from other sources even if they were cited. What do they mean by saying that even though I referenced other literature, I can't use their data? If my review doesn't include data from other sources, should I just write a novel for them? Feedback was received on January 12, 2025, the decision was made by the editor on January 20, and the manuscript was accepted on January 21. Algal Research is a well-established and prestigious journal with a limited number of publications per year, maintaining strict control over the quality of articles. This is the first time submitting to AR, hoping that the journal will continue to uphold its high standards and looking forward to its continued success. However, the most recent paper submitted in January 22 was not published until 23. This journal is indeed good, with many people in our field submitting to it.
